Rev. George Laliberte

1929-2021

The Reverend George G. Laliberte, fifth pastor of Saint Teresa of Avila Parish, entered fully into eternal life on February 9, 2021. Father George was ordained for the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament in 1956 and incardinated into the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1980. He succeeded Father Sima and served as Saint Teresa’s pastor from 1992 until 2001. At the beginning of his pastorate, Father George had to sleep in Bethlehem’s rectory while Saint Teresa’s rectory was renovated. During his time in Woodbury, a new organ was installed in the church and the Women’s Guild and Men’s Club grew. He is remembered for his saying, “live your Mass.” The Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair will be the principal celebrant at a small, private Mass of Christian Burial at the Chapel of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center, 467 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield on Friday, February 19, 2021, at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Woodbury Cemetery in Woodbury. The Funeral Mass will be limited to a small number of family and members of the clergy. The family will have a Memorial Mass with the parish on Saturday, October 9, 2021, in Saint Teresa’s Church at 11:00 AM now that we can safely be present. A bench will be dedicated to Father George following the Mass. We extend our prayers and consolation to the family and friends of Father George. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
