Celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday

A video recording Good Friday's Celebration of the Lord's Passion was made this afternoon within the parameters set by the Congregation of Divine Worship in Rome regarding these celebrations without a congregation. The liturgy was celebrated by Father Jim, Sherry Langrock, and Bob Taylor.

According to the Congregation for the Good Friday liturgy, there is no need to proclaim the Passion in parts. It should simply be read in its entirety. An additional text is to be included as an eleventh prayer to the Solemn Intercessions. For the Veneration of the Cross, only a couple of people should be assisting and reverence should be shown to the cross without kissing or touching it. A genuflection or profound bow would be appropriate.

Direction from the Archdiocese notes parishes need not celebrate an Easter Vigil under the present circumstances since no one can be present to be baptized or received into the church. The simple lighting of the new Paschal Candle and the renewal of baptismal promises at the Easter Day Mass without a congregation is sufficient. In light of these directions, the next liturgy will be on Easter Sunday.
